Birthday Boy!

Ewan Stone!  No One  knows how to say your name….and it just adds to your ‘cool-factor.’  Eeee-Wan?   Eeeee-Van?  Ian?  Hmmm….I guess only your inner circle will know…for now.  Because you are a force bursting to be reckoned with.  You, my little Ewan Stone…my little angel…my little boy… are MAGIC!   You don’t know this, and won’t for a bit…but we thought you were going to be a girl.  In this unknowing world of adoption GREATNESS, we just felt in our beings that a girl was coming.  Probably had something to do with the fact that we had two girls already…and pink and purple were starting to become  a staple in our house.  With two already, we were naturally girl-centric….girl-ready…girl focused!  Let’s just keep things the way they are.  Sooooooooooo….imagine our surprise, when driving home from dropping Walter off at the dog sitter for a trip we had planned and booked to Colorado the next day, and I receive a phone call from Shepherd Care….’we have a baby boy…he’s 5 days old, and his birth mama has CHOSEN YOU!’
me:  ‘Wait…i need to pull over…say what??  Can you repeat that??   A baby?  A boy?  Ours?
Shepherd Care:  ‘Yes, his tummy mama has chosen you to raise him and be his parents…are you in?
Me:  YES!!! Let me call Jaimeson, but Yes! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!!!!

Sweet Ewan Stone….I will never forget this moment…this day!!!  For it truly completed our family.  You have been the missing link that we didn’t know was missing.  Getting to know you and raise you and make you ours has been nothing short of a blessing and a miracle.   On July 18th, we didn’t know our world was about to change and embark on the most incredible little human to add to our crew….Ewan….you were the wee one destined to be on this voyage with us!  You were the one we’ve been waiting for to complete the Keegans.  My favorite saying (hanging in your room)…” We found you, we love you, and all the world is ours.”  Nothing could be more true.  Nothing in our wildest dreams could prepare us or guide us to who you are and what you are…you have surpassed all of my visions and expectations for what life with three would be.

You get excited to eat!  Your little arms stretch out and you start to curl your toes…and you jump up and down when we put you in your high chair.  You love broccoli, sweet potato, anything Mexican!, raspberries, blueberries, apples…anything!  You have an incredible little appetite. You do this little bounce on your bum…almost as if you’re dancing…you are in constant motion.  But you also like to snuggle.  You love your family and don’t want to be too far away from us.  You adore Walter.  The minute I put you down in the morning, your first destination is the living room where Walter is napping in his bed and you can’t wait to wake him up.  After all, you’re buddies. He doesn’t love this morning ritual as much as you do, but he does appreciate your affection for him.  You love to zoom your cars!  You’ll zoom anything you get your hands on.  You scoot around the house pushing everything.  Walters dog dish, bowls, books, plates.  You love to play ball.  You love to repeat the sounds that we make…you make it into a little game.  You have slept through the night since you were 10 months old…superstar!  You LOVE your sisters and want to spend as much time with them as possible.

Your soul is indescribable…and I am tearing up right now writing about who you are…..Ewan….you are amazing!!!  No other word….amazing!   How did we get so lucky?  How did we unite?  Kismet.  Serendipity.  The stars aligned. Blessings.  We are indebted.  Our life with you will forever be full of spirit, soul, smiles, happiness and gratitude.  Ewan….you are our son!  Our son!!!  Our boy!  The girls love you!  We love you!  I haven’t met a person yet who doesn’t love you.  You truly make people happy.  You are a happy-maker!  Pretty cool purpose if you ask me.  I love you sweet boy…and all I ask is that you live life fully and look out for yourself and keep making people happy.  You’re barely a year and I am already so proud of you.  I can only imagine what the next 100 years will bring.  I love you, Ewan Stone.  I love you. I love you.  Again and again and again. xo

standing like a big boy.  You will soon be walking.

Millie is 7!

Millie!!!  It’s hard to write, type, say your name without screaming it or evoking some sort of insane happy emotion…you make me HAPPY!!  Millie…….you make me happy!!!  You’ll be sick of hearing this as you grow older,  but you my dear, fill my heart.

You are becoming such a young lady.  Millie… i see it in everything that you do.  And as much as I want to stop the clock,  I am so impressed how you handle the next level of growing up.  Physically from the way you dress to the way you want your hair to the way you express your style.  But more importantly ,I see it in your wisdom and your soul.  Someone once told me, when you were a wee babe, that you were an ‘old soul.’  I wasn’t sure how to take that at the time.  But as time grew on and I have had the opportunity to discover what an amazing human you are… I get it.   You are the wise one in situations that are confusing…you are the calm in the midst of a storm…you are the first to notice someone in distress…you are beyond your years and not what someone would expect from a barely turned 7 year old.  Millie….you are the family rock and the QUEEN of the ‘littles’…..and not in a bossy way….you guide and mentor and teach and represent like only Glenda the Good Witch can…..you are the leader that Esmee and Ewan want…and that mommy and daddy are learning from too.  Your wisdom is beyond…I truly want to be you, Millie.  I admire you and respect you and on every birthday (and every day) I envision all the great you will lend to your community and your world.  You treat your friends with truth and loyalty.  You treat your siblings with care and protectiveness.

Soccer and gymnastics are your talents this year, girl….and damn! are you good!!  You are self taught.  By no means did we push…..you are self taught…and determined…you blow us away.  This year, you also fearlessly learned how to snowboard and continuously mastered everything that elementary had to offer.

Mil Mil…I love that you still want to cuddle…you are the most affectionate person  I know…more than myself.  I get excited when you’re the first one up and you skip to me in the living room to climb in my lap and snuggle in…that is OUR time.  Sometimes we sit there for half an hour before anyone else wakes up.  I cherish that time with you, Millie, and I hope it never changes.

At your parent teacher conference, Ms. Hanover described you as the ‘class leader…..silent but profound.’  Whew….those words took my breath away.  Millie…that is how I see you and how others see you…….amazing.

Go forth you powerful being, you.  Set your stage….make a presence, teach the world….know your amazing self….and most importantly, share it with everyone you encounter.  Millie…..incredible lady!!  We love you so much, you wonderful thing, you.  xx
