Eight is Great!

My dearest Esmee...
today you are 8 and I am so excited to celebrate YOU.   You are magical and it is such a treat to watch you grow up.  Here are just a few of the things that make you so special and that we enjoyed about your seventh year....
You use the phrase 'for example...' followed by the perfect example when explaining things.  You sound like a college professor when you articulately re-cap your day.  My favorite question to ask you is 'how was school?' because I get so excited for your thoughtful response.   At times I have to google words you surprise us with in conversation to make sure you're using them correctly...and YOU ARE!  I think you're a genius and can already tell you'll nail any interview you head into in the future.  You retain information.  When you re-tell a story, you give us all such detailed visuals and descriptions, we feel a part of the tale.  We are fascinated listening to you.  I love when you're my Greenlake partner because you help me get through the run by giving me a 30 minute summary about the latest book you're reading.  You are the human version of 'cliff notes.'  It's incredibly cool!

You started Yoga and Ballet this year.  Your graceful flow is beautiful to watch.  Your snowboarding skills really took off as well.  You get in stance and hold your flawless pose from the top of the mountain to the bottom.  I love following in your tracks.

I think when people describe our family they observe you as the calm, patient one...which you are.  But those that know you well, know that you have a wild child lurking inside you that is a BLAST to be around.  You often laugh so uncontrollably that you can barely breath!  Which in turn makes all of us laugh so hard we can barely breath.  You've recently asked me to FaceTime you in the mornings from my bedroom to yours to wake you up.  I find this hilarious and adorable and a highlight of my mornings.

You dilly dally and you're forgetful and you've had more fat lips this year than most people have in their lifetime.  You can scale a rockwall in record time, you can eat more sushi than me, you love your friends, you wear Converses almost every day, you have the cutest gaps in your teeth, you love flipping on the bars, your room is constantly messy, you are always helping others, you have no fear, you are good at saving your money, you love to cook and oh my goodness, now you're EIGHT!!  I love everything about you, Ezzy girl.  I can't imagine our lives without you.  You add so much sunshine and hope and goodness to the world.  Keep shining your light and spreading kindness.  You are and will continue to make a difference in others lives.  Happy Birthday, Sweet Girl!!!
