Boys day out

With the girls gone in Colorado, the house is too quiet for Walter and I. For the first 24 hours, it was kind of nice, but I can tell he's wondering when they are coming back, and I'm bored of insignificant house projects. Girls, we miss you! With that in mind, yesterday we decided to take a good old fashioned father-son hike to one of our favorite hikes, Snow Lake, which has a trailhead right at Alpental an hour from Seattle. It's a couple miles each way, with heaps of mountain-stream crossings which act as a constant water dish for dogs. We took some new camping gear up as a little field-test exercise and fortunately brought some extra warm-weather provisions (it was in the low 50's at the top). Walter had an awesome hike and run, even trying to chase a mountain mouse he discovered at the top. I swore he was 2 again. Proud of the little guy.

Where's Walter?

Rewards at the top - critical from Walter's standpoint

A little mouse hunting at the top. No mice were hurt but Walter took a nice dinger on the chest during the chase.

There's a lake somewhere under all that snow.

Having a blast in Colorado!

Life of a Stunt Girl...

Poor Millie...she took a spill on her bike racing down hill a little too fast :(  A fat lip, and  many scrapes to prove it.  She said she'll be taking smaller hills from now on...whew!
You're tough, Millie!
